Chico, CA---The Portland Pickles played inspired ball on Friday night at Nettleton Stadium, winning in style over the Chico Heat by a final score of 9-3. The win came on the heels of a sweep by the Medford Rogues. The Pickles turned in perhaps their finest performance of the season in the blowout victory, and scored six of their nine runs after the seventh inning.
Daniel Lopez had a home run and two RBIs on the night for the Pickles, and Trevor Feeney also hit a home run for his first Pickles hit. Matt Starcovic had and three RBIs on the night, and Thomas Rudinsky and Griffin Mueller each drove in a run.
Alec Leighton, Joey Cooper, Lopez, Starcovic and Rudinsky all registered two-hit games for the Pickles, who had 13 total hits on the night.
Pickles starting pitcher Josh Hendrickson (2-0) was fantastic, going eight innings and allowing just one earned run, striking out six in the process and only walking two.
Chico starting pitcher Justin Watland (2-1) took the loss for the Heat, going seven innings and allowing three runs. Heat reliever Tanner Clark gave up six earned runs.
The Pickles (7-9) play Chico (10-6) again tomorrow night in the middle game of a three game set at Nettleton Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550, and streaming on picklesbaseball.com.
