Marysville, CA--The Portland Pickles continued their winning ways on Saturday night at Colusa Casino Stadium, beating the Yuba City Bears 4-3 and winning the series after taking the first two games. They will look for their first series sweep of the season on Sunday night in the series finale.
Koty Fallon paced the Pickles offense with three hits, an RBI single in the first, a two-run double in the sixth, and another single in the eighth. Matt Starcovic provided the Pickles an RBI single in the first inning as well. Matt Hardy finished with two hits, a walk, and two runs scored on the night, and Zander Clarke walked twice and also scored two runs.
Australian southpaw Josh Hendrickson (6-1) is now alone for the league lead in wins. He gave the Pickles six innings on Saturday, allowing two runs, walking four, and striking out seven. He also leads the GWL with 71 strikeouts, 24 more than the next closest pitcher. Pickles closer Dustin Redish allowed just one hit over the final two innings, striking out three and earning his third save.
Kaelan Crisosto led the Bears with two homers on the night, one in the second inning and one in the seventh. He also had a double. Josh Winkler had two hits and an RBI, and Creed Smith had two hits and two walks, including a triple.
Bears starting pitcher Danny Chavez (2-3) took the loss, allowing four runs in 5.1 innings, walking four and striking out three. Bears relievers Willie Bennett and Cam Greenough combined to allow just one hit over the final 3.2 innings, with both making their team debuts.
The Pickles (19-22) play the Bears (10-31) again on Sunday night in the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05, and coverage will start at 6:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will be streamed on picklesbaseball.com.
