Marysville, CA--The Portland Pickles scored a season-high in runs and earned the series sweep on Sunday night at Colusa Casino Stadium against the Yuba City Bears in a 23-10 victory. It was the first sweep of season for the Pickles. The game was tied at six entering the sixth inning, when the Pickles scored seven, and six more in the seventh, to pull away with the easy victory.
Koty Fallon broke Zander Clarke's record for RBIs, set last month, with nine on the night. Fallon had two home runs, including a grand slam, and finished with four hits. Colin Rubino also had four hits, and two RBIs. Bobby Kinne had three hits and two RBIs, and Matt Starcovic also had three hits. Alex Henwood had two hits and three RBIs, and Kelechi Anyanwu had two hits and two RBIs. The Pickles finished with 23 total hits on the night, also a season high.
Pickles starting pitcher Matt Hardy (4-0) earned the victory, going five innings and allowing six runs, only one of which was earned. He walked five and struck out six. Hardy also contributed two hits and an RBI at the plate, batting for himself.
Yuba City starter Ryan Brown took the no-decision, allowing four runs in three innings, and walking six. Reliever Malcolm Boehm (0-1) took the loss, allowing six earned runs in 2.1 innings out of the bullpen. TJ Dove led the Bears offense with three hits and two RBIs. The Bears had seven errors defensively in the game.
The Pickles (20-22) host the Lincoln Potters on Monday night at Walker Stadium in the first of a three game set. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will be streamed on picklesbaseball.com.
