Portland, OR--The Portland Pickles completed an improbable come-from-behind victory in walk-off fashion on Wednesday night at Walker Stadium. After trailing 12-4 in the fifth inning, the Pickles trailed 13-10 entering the bottom of the ninth, and rallied for four runs to win the game 14-13. The win also won the Pickles the series, two games to one.
The Pickles got a bases loaded walk from Alex Henwood, an RBI single from Daniel Lopez, and a bases loaded walk from Zander Clarke to tie the game at 13 in the bottom of the ninth inning with no outs and the bases full. After the next two Pickles hitters were retired, Henwood scored on a wild pitch to seal the victory.
Zander Clarke had four hits and five RBIs on the night for the Pickles, including a leadoff triple in the fifth. Tate Budnick had two hits and three RBIs.
Mitch Maynes (1-2) earned the victory for the Pickles, tossing two inning out of the bullpen. Starter Renner Stecki lasted two innings, allowing two earned runs. Donovan Baldocchi gave the Pickles 2.1 innings of one-run ball out of the bullpen.
Potters starter Brett Swartz had a no-decision, going three innings and allowing four earned runs. Reliever Johnathan Lavallee (5-1) took the loss, surrendering the walk-off wild pitch. Jacob Gomez had a blown save, allowing four earned runs in the ninth inning.
Will Law had a home run and three RBIs for Lincoln, finishing with three hits. Braden De Benedictis also had a home run, and finished with three RBIs and two hits. Austen Swift had a three-run home run in the fifth inning, and also had three hits.
The Pickles (22-23) host the Chico Heat tomorrow night in the series opener. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will be streamed on picklesbaseball.com.
