Lincoln, CA--One night after surviving a blown eight-run lead, the Lincoln Potters bounced back with an impressive 5-1 victory over the Portland Pickles in the series finale Thursday night at McBean Stadium. Josh Cooper (3-0) earned the victory for the Potters in a terrific performance, going eight innings and allowing just one run, while striking out four.
Eli Garcia had a two-run single in the second inning for Lincoln, and Charles Middleton added an RBI single of his own in the third inning. After the Pickles cut the lead to two runs, the Potters responded with two runs in the sixth inning on an RBI double from Jake Boyd. A second run scored on the play via a throwing error from the Pickles. Both Garcia and Kyle Selor had three hits on the night for the Potters.
Koty Fallon provided the only run of the night for Portland on a solo home run in the sixth inning, his fifth of the year. Alec Leighton had two hits, including a sixth inning double for the Pickles, and Bobby Kinne registered three hits for the second straight night.
Max Jones (3-4) took the loss for Portland, allowing five runs, four of which were earned, in 5.1 innings. He walked three and struck out three. Pickles reliever Mitch Maynes pitched 2.2 scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
Cody Lindsey pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Potters in his team debut. Lindsey, a pitcher from nearby Folsom Lake College, had been working for the Potters in the press box, but was signed to the roster two days ago.
The Pickles (24-27) play the Marysville Gold Sox on Friday night at Colusa Casino Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will be streamed on picklesbaseball.com.
