Marysville, CA--The Portland Pickles took game two over the Marysville Gold Sox on Saturday night, and in the process ensured that they will be participating in the Great West League playoffs this year. Alex Henwood drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the ninth on a safety squeeze bunt. Tate Budnick (1-0) threw the final three innings for the Pickles out of the bullpen, earning the win and allowing only one hit. He struck out two Gold Sox batters.
Alec Leighton, Alex Henwood, and Tyler Stofiel each had three hits for the Pickles. Henwood had two RBIs, including the go-ahead run. Zander Clarke drove in two runs, and Koty Fallon and Joey Cooper each also had an RBI, with Fallon recording two hits on the night.
Matt Hardy started the game for the Pickles, going five innings and allowing five runs, striking out six hitters.
Isaiah Rodriguez had a no-decision for the Gold Sox, allowing six runs and walking six walks in 6.1 innings. Doug Nimura (2-7) took the loss, allowing the go-ahead run in the ninth inning.
Devin Pettengill led Marysville with three hits and an RBI. Joey Mejia had an RBI double in the fourth inning, in which the Gold Sox scored five runs.
The Pickles (26-27) play the Gold Sox (19-34) again on Sunday night in the series finale. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05, and coverage will start at 6:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will be streamed on picklesbaseball.com.
