Portland, OR--The Portland Pickles avenged a loss on Sunday night to the Marysville Gold Sox by beating up on the Yuba City Bears on Monday night at Walker Stadium. The Pickles jumped out to an early 7-0 lead, highlighted by Matt Starcovic's grand slam, and never looked back, routing the Bears by a final score of 14-2.
Joey Cooper had three hits on the night for the Pickles, and Portland got two RBIs out of Bobby Kinne, Renner Stecki, and Daniel Lopez, with Kinne registering two hits. Alec Leighton also had two hits on the night, including an RBI single in the fifth inning.
In a no-decision, Pickles starter Colton Walker went four innings, allowing one earned run, walking three and striking out five. Mitch Maynes (2-2) earned the victory, pitching three scoreless innings out of the Portland bullpen.
Kevin Baronowski (1-3) took the loss for the Bears, allowing 10 earned runs in 4.1 innings. Michael Lagier and Collyn Lawrence each had an RBI single on the night for the Yuba City.
The Pickles (27-28) play the Bears (11-44) again on Tuesday at Walker Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will be streamed on picklesbaseball.com.
