Portland, OR--The Portland Pickles didn't skip a beat on Tuesday, beating the Yuba City Bears 14-2, the same final score as the series opener on Monday. Mike Gagliardi (1-3) went 6.1 superb innings in the win, allowing just two hits and two runs. He walked seven and struck out seven. It was the final appearance of the season for Gagliardi, the cadet from West Point. Matt Starcovic had four hits on the night for Portland, reaching base six times and driving in two runs.
In addition to Starcovic's four hits, both Tyler Stofiel and Zander Clarke each had three, with Stofiel hitting a leadoff triple in the third inning and Clarke finishing with five RBIs, including a three-run home run in the fourth inning, his 13th of the season. Bobby Kinne drove in two runs, including an RBI single in the fourth inning.
Alex Henwood reached base four times for Portland, scoring all four times and finishing with two hits. Alec Leighton reached base five times, recording two hits and driving in a run on a bases loaded walk in the fifth inning.
After Gagliardi exited the contest, Cooper Webster, Andrew Eppenbach, and Tate Budnick combined to allow just one hit in the final 2.2 innings, with each of the Pickles relievers striking out two Bears batters.
Jacob Olofson (0-1) took the loss for Yuba City, allowing nine runs, seven of them earned, in 2.1 innings. The Bears scored both of their runs in the sixth inning, on a fielder's choice from Trey Yukomoto and on a wild pitch.
