Press Release | January 25, 2018
PORTLAND - The Portland Pickles have signed RHP Steve Emanuels of the University of Washington for the 2018 West Coast League season.
In 2017, Emanuels was ranked as the No. 1 overall high school prospect in the state of Washington by Baseball Northwest.
"Steve is a highly thought of right-hander from the University of Washington," said Gregg Swenson, Rose City Baseball's Director of Baseball Operations. "His experience working with Coach Kelly and playing in the PAC12 will pay huge dividends for us this summer."
Emanuels attended Interlake High School in Bellevue, Washington.
As a junior, he went 5-1 with a 2.10 ERA for Interlake to earn First Team All-Kingco and First Team All-State honors. The 6'5" right-hander commands a fastball, slider, and change-up.
"Stevie can run it up there comfortably in the upper 80's and we have seen him touch 92," said Head Coach Lindsay Meggs. "While his best pitch is his slider, as Stevie gains strength I think you'll see him in the 90-94 range with his fastball. Those two pitches alone make you think weekend starter, now add an improved change-up to the mix and you start thinking Friday night guy."
Steve will be used out of the bullpen in his first season with Washington. The Huskies start their season at Sacramento State on February 16th.
