Tulane and Northwestern Add Prospects to 2018 Pickles Roster

Press Release | January 31, 2018

PORTLAND - The Portland Pickles announced today the signing of Tulane University Pitcher, Connor Pellerin, and Northwestern University Catcher, Nick Paciorek.

"We are excited to have players from these two great programs back east," said Rose City Baseball's Director of Baseball Operations, Gregg Swenson. "I coached with Coach Jewett (Tulane) and Coach Allen (Northwestern), and there's no doubt Connor and Nick will come in well prepared and ready to play."

Connor Pellerin is a current freshman at Tulane (New Orleans, Louisiana) and will be joining the Pickles for the 2018 West Coast League Season. He is a right-handed pitcher.

Pellerin was a four-year letterwinner at the Episcopal High School of Baton Rouge in Baton Rouge, Louisiana before enrolling at Tulane. He pitched, played first base, and was named team captain and MVP as a senior. Pellerin picked up First Team All-Metro and All-State honors during his senior campaign. He was also named All-District MVP with a 9-3 record; he maintained a 0.97 earned-run average while commanding 108 strikeouts.

"Connor gives batters a hard time with his low ¾ arm slot and slight crossfire delivery," said Tulane Pitching Coach, Tighe Dickinson. "He features a heavy fastball that he can locate on both sides of the plate and a hard slider. He'll do great up in Portland this summer."

Connor and the Green Wave open their season at home against Wright State on February 16th.

The Pickles also signed their second catcher for 2018, Nick Paciorek, a current sophomore attending Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois).

Nick made 37 appearances and 27 starts in his first season at Northwestern in 2017. He collected 13 hits, two doubles, a triple, and a home run. Defensively, he caught eight runners attempting to steal.

A three-year letterwinner at Oaks Christian HS in California, Paciorek helped the Lions capture the CIF title in 2013.

"Nick is a versatile player who truly knows the ins and outs of the game," said Northwestern Head Coach, Spencer Allen. "Athletic behind the plate, [Nick] receives extremely well and was a key part of our team last year as a freshman. We are excited for Nick's future. I know he will be a good player and an even better teammate for the Pickles."

Nick and Northwestern begin their season against Nebraska-Omaha on February 16th in Glendale, Arizona
