PORTLAND - Today, the Portland Pickles announced the signing of Gonzaga infielder/outfielder Carson Breshears.
Breshears was a Pickle while he was a member of the Oregon Ducks but is now returning to Portland as a Gonzaga Bulldog. The left-handed hitter hit .296 for the Pickles and stole 13 bases back in 2016. He only struck out 16 times.
"We are excited to bring back another former Pickle and to add a player of Carson's talent to our roster," said Rose City Baseball's Director of Baseball Ops Gregg Swenson
Breshears was named Pac-12 All-Academic Honorable Mention in both 2016 and 2017. He graduated from Oregon with a Bachelor's Degree in Economics and is currently working on a Master's in Business Administration at Gonzaga.
The Mount Si High School product (Snoqualmie, Washington) is slated to start at second base for the Bulldogs; he started 25 games at the position as Ducks in 2016. However, Breshears also had a large number of innings as an outfielder in 2017. Breshears amassed a .342 On-Base-Percentage while in Eugene.
"Carson comes to us as a very versatile and skilled player, said Gonzaga Head Coach Mark Machtolf. "We had his older brother Dustin for two years, who we thought was one of the toughest players we've ever had. We think Carson is cut from the same mold."
The Gonzaga Bulldogs' schedule is set to begin in Surprise, Arizona against Cal Poly on February 16th.
