Pickles fall in Walla Walla 5-4
Walla Walla, Wash. —
The Pickles lost 5-4 Friday night at Borleske Stadium in Walla Walla, Washington, as the Sweets got a walk-off win.
Portland tied the game in dramatic fashion in the top of the ninth inning. Trailing 4-3 with one out, Gabe Skoro connected for a single, and Gio Diaz followed with a fielder’s choice, narrowly beating out a double play ball. Then, with two outs and a 3-2 count, Carson Breshears smashed a double to the left-center field gap, scoring Diaz from first and tying the game at 4-4.
The Sweets rallied in the bottom of the ninth on a bunt single, a stolen base, and a single through the left side to win the game. Walla Walla improves to 10-6, a half-game in front of the Pickles for second in the West Coast League South division. Corvallis won on Friday, and have the division lead at 11-5.
Zander Clarke ripped an RBI double off the wall in left to put Portland in front 1-0 in the third, scoring Carson Breshears. The Sweets answered with a four-run third inning to take a 4-1 lead. The Pickles responded with a run in the fifth, seventh, and ninth to tie the game.
