Portland, OR---The comeback kids did it again on Friday night at Walker Stadium, coming back from a 7-3 deficit in the seventh inning to earn their second walk-off win of the week, beating the defending champion Heat by a final of 8-7.
Pickles outfielder Matt Starcovic hit a two run home run in the fourth inning, his first of the year, and then drove in the tying and winning runs in the ninth off of Chico reliever Tanner Clark (0-1). Starcovic also hit a double in the game, finishing with three hits and four RBIs. Renner Stecki and Aidan Malm each had RBI doubles for the Pickles on the night, in the second and seventh innings, respectively. Alec Leighton had an RBI single in the seventh, and Joey Cooper stole home on a perfectly executed delayed double steal also in the seventh inning.
Matt Tomazin (1-0) earned the win for the Pickles after two perfect innings of relief. Starting pitcher Max Jones gave up three runs in four innings and struck out four.
Chico starting pitcher Mikey Wright struck out seven batters in six innings of work, giving up three runs.
Justin Watari and Jake Davidson both hit home runs in the game for the Heat.
The Pickles (5-5) host the Heat (6-4) again tomorrow night at Walker Stadium at 7:05 in the second game of the three game set.
