Medford, OR---It was a rough night at Harry & David Field on Tuesday for the Portland Pickles. The Medford Rogues scored early and often, beating the Pickles by a final score of 8-1. Dylan Pearce (1-0) had a phenomenal start for the Rogues, going seven innings and allowing four hits, no runs, a walk, and striking out ten.
Pickles starting pitcher Dustin Redish (0-2) took the loss for Portland, allowing four earned runs in 3.1 innings, walking four and striking out five.
The Rogues got out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning on a sacrifice fly by Josh Berman and on an error by the Pickles on the same play. They added three more in the fourth thanks to a two run single by Jaden Hanna and an RBI double by Davis Delorefice. Dante Gutierrez and Johnny De La Cruz each had RBI singles in the eighth inning. Clay Valezuela-Reece had three hits on the night for Medford.
Portland managed just four hits on the night, two of them doubles, and scored their only run of the game in the ninth inning with a bases loaded hit-by-pitch from Thomas Rudinsky.
The Pickles (6-7) play the Rogues (8-5) again tomorrow night, in the middle game of the three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35, and coverage will start at 6:30. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550, and streaming on picklesbaseball.com.
