Chico, CA---The Portland Pickles beat the Chico Heat on Sunday night, overcoming grueling temperatures to win the game and the series. The Pickles won by a final score of 11-6. Portland got out to an early 4-0 lead, but the Heat battled back, and it was 7-6 after the eighth inning. The Pickles added four unanswered runs in the top of the ninth to seal the victory
Zander Clarke had three hits on the night for the Pickles, including a fourth inning home run. He reached base five times and scored three runs. Aidan Malm also had three hits on the night. Joey Cooper, Renner Stecki, and Thomas Rudinsky each had two hits on the night, with Cooper driving in one run and Stecki driving in two.
Matt Hardy (1-0) earned the victory for the Pickles with an impressive performance, allowing just one run over five innings and striking out four Heat batters. Jacob Allbee finished the game for Portland with two innings out of the bullpen, earning the save.
Chico starter Ryan Sanchez (1-2) took the loss, allowing four runs in five innings. Jake Davidson and Tanner Tokunaga each had three hits on the night for the Heat.
