Portland, OR---After gutting out a series victory on Sunday in Chico, the Portland Pickles beat the expansion Yuba City Bears with ease on Monday night at Walker Stadium, winning by a final score of 9-5 in the opener of a three game series and six game homestand.
Bobby Kinne and Zander Clarke each had home runs on the night for the Pickles, with Kinne driving in three runs total. Matt Hardy, Joey Cooper, and Alex Henwood had an RBI each on the night, with Henwood making his Pickles debut. The Pickles ended up with 12 total hits in the game.
Pickles starting pitcher Max Jones (1-1) earned his first victory of the season, going six strong innings and allowing just two earned runs. He walked two and struck out five Bears on the night. Colton Walker and Bryce Mulcahy finished the final three innings on the mound for the Pickles.
Danny Chavez (1-1) took the loss for the Bears, giving up six earned runs in 5.2 innings. He walked three and struck out four on the night.
The Pickles (9-10) host the Bears (5-14) in the second game of the series Tuesday night at Walker Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00.
