The Portland Pickles split a fourth of July doubleheader at Walker Stadium on Tuesday. They shut out the Perth Heat 6-0 in the opening game behind four shutout innings from Matt Lester. Kelechi Anyanwu had two doubles and an RBI and Renner Stecki drove in two runs. Brady Johnson hit a two run home run in the seventh inning. Zach Johnson and Matt Olstead provided lock-down relief out of the Pickles bullpen.
In the nightcap, the Medford Rogues rallied from an early 2-0 hole with four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings, en route to a 9-5 victory. Zander Clarke had four hits on the night, three doubles and a home run, and drove in two runs. Daniel Lopez also drove in two runs. Matt Starcovic provided an RBI single for the Pickles in the third inning.
Pickles starting pitcher Matt Hardy delivered six solid innings in a no-decision, allowing just one run and striking out six batters. Colton Walker (0-3) took the loss for the Pickles out of the bullpen, allowing four earned runs.
Alex Isola had a home run and a two run single, and Johnny De La Cruz also drove in three runs for the Rogues on a bases clearing double in the eighth. Davis Delorefice had three hits and an RBI on the game.
Rogues starter Jaiden France went 4.1 innings, allowing two runs and walking five. Chris Painter (5-0) earned the win out of the Rogues bullpen, going 2.2 innings and allowing one run.
