Portland, OR--The Portland Pickles bounced back with an impressive performance on Sunday night, beating the Marysville Gold Sox by a final score of 5-3 to avoid the series sweep. After pulling ahead 3-0 after the first inning, the Pickles allowed three unanswered runs, but took the lead for good after a two run fifth inning.
Josh Hendrickson (5-1) earned the victory, going six innings, allowing three runs, walking five and striking out six. He is now tied for the league lead in wins, and has the most among starting pitchers. Sam Muskat pitched two scoreless innings, and Dustin Redish earned the save for the Pickles, his first of the season.
Matt Starcovic had two hits and two RBIs on the night, and Koty Fallon had an RBI single. Alec Leighton also had two hits on the night. The Pickles scored two runs on bases loaded walks.
Cole Van Den Helder (1-1) took the loss for the Gold Sox, allowing five runs in seven innings, and walking six. Jason Dicochea had an RBI double, and the Gold Sox also had two bases loaded walks in the game.
The Pickles (15-21) are off Monday, and will travel to play the Gold Sox (14-23) on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will stream on picklesbaseball.com.
