Marysville, CA--The Portland Pickles were able to secure an impressive win over the Marysville Gold Sox at Colusa Casino Stadium on Tuesday night, by a final score of 3-1.  The Pickles jumped out to an early 2-0 lead and were able to hold on for the win, behind a solid pitching performance from Matt Hardy.
Zander Clarke got things started for the Pickles with a solo home run in the first inning, followed by a double by Matt Starcovic and a bloop RBI single from Koty Fallon, also in the first.  They added an insurance run in the ninth on a safety squeeze RBI bunt single from Andrew Garcia with runners on first and third and one out.  It was Garcia's first hit of the season for the Pickles.  Both Clarke and Starcovic finished with two hits on the night.
Hardy (3-0) turned in a stellar performance, going eight innings and allowing just four hits and a run.  He struck out six hitters and only walked one.  Dustin Redish pitched a hit-less ninth inning, earning his second save of the season.
Sam Leach led the Gold Sox with two hits, including a double.  Jaisten Cabatbat provided Marysville with their only run on an RBI single in the second inning.
Cruz Daddario (2-1) took the loss for the Gold Sox, despite a great outing in his first start of the season.  He allowed two runs in eight innings and struck out seven Pickles batters on the night.
The Pickles (16-21) and Gold Sox (14-24) play again tomorrow night in game two of the series in Marysville.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will stream on picklesbaseball.com.
