With the Pickles trailing 4-1 in the third inning, Matt Hardy blasted a three-run homer to deep left field to tie the game at four. In the seventh inning, the Pickles scored the go-ahead runs off of an error by Potters pitcher Adrian Rodriguez on a sacrifice bunt from Alex Henwood. Bobby Kinne and Alec Leighton both scored on the error and the Pickles held on to win the game.
Zander Clarke had two doubles and an RBI in the game for Portland, and Leighton and Kinne each added three hits for the Pickles, with Leighton scoring three runs.
Pickles starting pitcher Colton Walker had a quality outing, allowing two earned runs in five innings, walking two and striking out five. Nick Torres (1-0) earned the win for the Pickles giving them three scoreless innings out of the bullpen. Dustin Redish earned his fourth save with a hit-less ninth, striking out two Potters hitters.
Will Law led the Potters with a two-run home run in the second inning, and finished with three hits on the night. Isaiah Garcia also had three hits, and Aidan Malm had a third inning RBI single in his return to Portland, after being traded to the Potters last month.
Potters starting pitcher Kenneth Pettibone (3-2), the second leading ERA man in the GWL, took the loss, allowing four earned runs in six innings. He struck out five and walked two on the night.
The Pickles (21-22) host the Potters (28-15) again on Tuesday night in the middle game of the series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05, and coverage will start at 7:00. The game can be heard on Sunny 1550 and will be streamed on picklesbaseball.com.
