Ben Smith Signs With the Pickles

Ben Smith, Grand Canyon University standout, has signed with the Pickles! The six-foot-seven youngster from Henderson, NV brings heat to the mound and an incredible skillset that will be utilized in Portland this summer.

The Basic Academy graduate comes into his freshman season with the Lopes as a top pitching prospect in Nevada and the 21st-ranked LHP in the entire 2023 class (via Perfect Game). He paints the frame well with his stuff and has a juicy fastball.

Portland Pickles Manager, Mark Magdaleno, had this to say about the signing:

“Ben is a strike-thrower will plus stuff and he loves to compete. He comes from GCU and you know what you’re getting from that program. I’m thankful that GCU Head Coach Gregg Wallis and Pitching Coach Nathan Bannister have chosen the Portland Pickles for talented players like Ben.”
