Pickles Win an Extra Innings Thriller

Portland, Ore (August 2, 2024) - The Portland Pickles (35-14) defeated The Yakima Valley Pippens (18-31) with a rally in the Bottom of the Tenth, taking game one of the upcoming six-game homestand. This is the Pickles fourth win in their last five matchups.

Aaron Barber (Pacific Lutheran) made a statement in his Pickles debut, going 2-for-4 with a walk, and sending everyone home by slapping a two-run single to walk it off in extras. The Pickles offense battled back and forth with the Pippens, with the defense on both sides showing off. Alec Gouveia (UC Davis) continued his stellar season at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBIs and a walk, while Armando Briseno (Long Beach St.) also went 1-for-4 with a walk. Barber’s clutch hit came in response to a 2-run top of the tenth put up by The Pippens, showcasing the Pickles late-game resiliency.

The Pickles pitching staff showcased five arms today, keeping the game within reach the whole time. Carter Speights (UC Davis) went 3.0 Innings, allowing 1 run off of 3 hits. Carter Delaney (UC Davis) came into relief in the bottom of the ninth, struck out 5 in 2 Innings Pitched, and was credited with the win.

The Pickles are back at it tomorrow night against Yakima Valley, looking to clinch the series and continue the momentum as we head into the playoffs.
