Pickles close out the Series with a Sweep

 

Portland, Ore (August 4, 2024)—The Portland Pickles (37-14) defeated the Yakima Valley Pippens (18-33) 11-4 to secure the series sweep and tie the Pickles franchise record for regular season wins. 

Matthew Shapiro (Japan) set the tone early for the Pickles, allowing no hits until a ground ball single late in the 3rd Inning. Shapiro went 6.0 Innings, allowing just 3 hits and 1 run, while striking out 6, his season high. Three other pitchers finished the job on the mound, holding the Pippens to 4 runs on 6 hits. 

There was no shortage of offense for the Pickles, with the team boasting 15 hits and drawing 10 walks. Cody Kashimoto (St. Mary’s) went 3-for-5, with 4 R, 1 RBI, and 1 BB. Armando Briseno (Long Beach St.) went 3-for-5, with 2 R, 2 RBI, and 1 BB. Tanner Griffith went 3-for-4, with 2 R, 2 RBI, 1 BB, and a deep Home Run to Right Field. Diego Castellanos went 3-for-3, with 1 R, 1 RBI, and 2 BB.

The Pickles look to close out the regular season strong against Kelowna starting this Tuesday, August 6.
