Chipper Beck Signs With the Pickles
Chipper Beck, one of Utah’s finest, will be tearing it up for the Pickles this summer! The former Salt Lake Community College standout is now the starting shortstop at BYU and will be playing in Portland for the West Coast League season.
Beck was a winner at the JUCO level, being tabbed to the All-Scenic West Athletic Conference First Team last season along with helping SLCC to a district title. He hit an astonishing .370 with six homers and 41 runs to his name. He was a high-priority target and was recruited to Utah, Utah Tech, and UC San Diego before committing to Brigham Young.
Portland Pickles Manager, Mark Magdaleno, had this to say about the signing:
“Chipper is an experienced shortstop who makes the routine plays. He’s a run-producer whose abilities give me the flexibility to hit him anywhere in the lineup. Everywhere he’s been he has won. Winning or losing are both learned behaviors and when I recruit I look for those who know what it takes to win. He’s one of those guys.”
