Shunsuke Sakaino Re-Signs With the Pickles
Shunsuke Sakaino is going to be patrolling second base for the Pickles once again! The CSUN standout will be returning to Portland for the second summer in a row where he will be a key contributor at the plate and in the diamond.
The 2023 All-Big West Honorable Mention was a massive asset to CSUN last season, slashing an impressive .310/.374/.428 while finishing top-four in the conference in on-base percentage, runs scored, and bases stolen. His 2023 season with the Pickles was unfortunately cut short due to injury. His speed on the basepaths makes him a weapon in all phases of the game and Sakaino will look to bring this firepower back to Portland!
Portland Pickles Manager, Mark Magdaleno, had this to say about the signing:
“Shunsuke was one of the most important recruits that I landed last year and I’m excited that Cal State Northridge trusted us enough to send him back. He got hurt early last summer but his impact was huge while he was here. When he went down, it changed our offensive and defensive dynamics. He gives us another experienced player, whose athleticism and baseball acumen is off the charts.”
