Portland, Ore. (7/12/24)

In the series opener, the Portland Pickles (24-9) defeated the Bend Elks (21-12) 9-2 in dominant fashion, moving to 9-1 in their last ten games and 3-1 on the season against Bend.

Noel Valdez (UC Davis) set the tone early on the mound, tossing five scoreless innings, highlighted by six strikeouts to one walk. Shay Timmer (Salt Lake CC) came into relief in the top of the sixth to throw two more scoreless innings for the Pickles, striking out three while topping out at 101 MPH on the radar gun. Kenny Ishikawa (Japan) and Carter Speights (UC Davis) closed out the final two innings on the mound for the Pickles.

The offense jumped to a hot start, thanks to some scrappy baseball and timely hitting. Carter Frederick (Oklahoma), Alejandro Garza (Cal Poly), and Kevin Ferguson (San Francisco) all recorded multi-hit games, while Frederick and Ferguson both drew two walks as well. Seven batters reached base safely for the Pickles.

The Pickles return to face Bend again Saturday, July 13th at Walker Stadium for game two of the three-game home series. It is also game 2 of State Fair weekend where the Pickles have carnival games, rides and all the fried foods that you can imagine. Click here to purchase tickets.
